Trance Radar: 5 Stories Shaping the Trance Scene This Week

Trance news September 2026 is already showing a clear connection between the genre’s history and its next chapter. From the first wave of artists announced for A State of Trance Rotterdam 2027 to fresh releases from Black Hole Recordings, the past week has delivered plenty for Trance fans and producers to follow.

In this week’s Trance Radar, we look at five developments shaping the current Trance music landscape.

1. A State of Trance Rotterdam 2027 Reveals Its First Wave of Artists

One of the biggest Trance announcements of the week came from A State of Trance, with the first wave of artists for the 2027 Rotterdam edition now revealed.

Among the announced names are Aly & Fila b2b John O’Callaghan and Vini Vici b2b Space 92, immediately suggesting that the next edition will continue to explore different sides of contemporary Trance and electronic music.

The Rotterdam edition is scheduled for February 26–27, 2027, with previous announcements also indicating a five-hour Armin van Buuren set and a vinyl-focused opening.

Why It Matters

A State of Trance remains one of the most visible global platforms connected to the Trance scene.

The interesting part of the 2027 announcement is the combination of established Trance names with artists operating closer to the harder and techno-influenced edges of the electronic spectrum.

For fans, that suggests a festival experience that isn’t limited to one interpretation of what Trance can be.

2. Black Hole Recordings Brings Classic Trance Back Into Focus

Black Hole Recordings’ latest weekly release selection is particularly interesting for listeners who enjoy the relationship between classic Trance and modern production.

One of the highlights is Johan Gielen & Virtual Vault – “Intensive (Airscape Remix)”.

The remix revisits a Trance track originally released 13 years ago and gives it a cleaner, more contemporary sound while retaining the identity of the original.

That idea is becoming increasingly relevant across electronic music: instead of simply reproducing the sound of an earlier era, producers are taking recognizable melodies and production ideas and rebuilding them for modern systems and modern dancefloors.

Why It Matters

For Trance producers, this is an interesting reminder that a strong melody can survive changes in production technology and musical trends.

The challenge is not necessarily recreating the past.

It’s understanding what made the original work and finding a way to make those elements relevant again.

3. C-Systems Pushes Toward a Faster, More Energetic Trance Sound

Another release highlighted by Black Hole Recordings this week is C-Systems – “Pillars Of Light.”

The track moves at 140 BPM and combines a driving nu-rave bassline with bright synth work and a melodic breakdown. According to the label’s release feature, the production originally began as a slower 136 BPM idea before the tempo and bassline were changed, fundamentally altering the character of the track.

That production story is especially interesting.

Changing BPM isn’t always just a matter of making a track faster. A tempo change can force a producer to rethink the bassline, groove, arrangement and even the emotional character of the record.

Production Perspective

This is something Trance producers can learn from.

Sometimes a track does not need another layer, another synth or another effect.

It may need a different fundamental movement.

Changing the relationship between tempo and bass can completely change how a record feels.

4. Airscape’s Remix Shows Why Trance Classics Still Matter

The return of older Trance material is not limited to “Intensive.”

The current release landscape continues to show interest in revisiting sounds from the late ’90s, 2000s and early 2010s.

Black Hole Recordings’ latest selection also includes Mark Norman x Frankyeffe – “Shine.” Frankyeffe has reworked Mark Norman’s older material, taking elements associated with the original and moving them toward a more modern techno-oriented interpretation.

This is an interesting direction because it doesn’t treat nostalgia as a requirement to reproduce an old sound exactly.

Instead, the older composition becomes raw material.

The Bigger Picture

Trance has always had a strong relationship with its own history.

But today’s producers have access to tools, sound design techniques and club systems that were not available when many of these records were originally produced.

That creates an opportunity:

Keep the emotional DNA. Change the production language.

5. A New Generation of Trance Releases Is Already Building Momentum

While major festival announcements attract the headlines, the weekly release cycle continues to be one of the best ways to understand where Trance is heading.

Beatport’s current Main Floor Trance release listings include new records released on September 25 from a wide range of labels and artists, with releases spanning different tempos and approaches to the genre.

Among the releases listed are records from artists including Xantina, Relentless, Andy Jaymz, James Pound & Revati, Dark Moon, Wayne McAndrew and David McQuiston.

Meanwhile, Black Hole Recordings’ Week 39 selection demonstrates an equally broad spectrum, moving from progressive sounds to 140 BPM Trance and modern reinterpretations of older material.

Why This Matters

The Trance scene is not represented by a single sound anymore.

There is room for:

  • Uplifting Trance
  • Progressive Trance
  • Main Floor Trance
  • Techno-influenced Trance
  • Harder Trance
  • Melodic electronic music
  • Classic-inspired productions

That diversity is one of the most interesting aspects of the current scene.

What This Week Tells Us About Trance

Looking across these developments, one theme becomes particularly noticeable:

Trance is looking forward without completely leaving its past behind.

The announcement surrounding A State of Trance Rotterdam 2027 points toward a broad contemporary interpretation of the genre, while releases such as the new Airscape remix of “Intensive” demonstrate the continued influence of earlier Trance generations.

At the production level, tracks such as C-Systems’ “Pillars Of Light” show how producers can take familiar melodic ideas and place them inside faster, more modern frameworks.

For listeners, this means there is currently no single definition of what a Trance record needs to sound like.

For producers, that can be even more exciting.

Pourya’s Take

As a Trance producer, one of the things I find most interesting right now is the way melody and modern production are meeting each other.

There is a temptation when working with Trance to think that sounding “classic” means copying the production techniques of the past.

I don’t think that’s necessarily the answer.

The stronger approach is to understand why certain records from previous generations worked so well: the melody, tension, progression, emotional payoff and relationship between the breakdown and the drop.

Once those fundamentals are understood, there is much more freedom to build the production with a modern sound.

That’s also why the current wave of remixes and reinterpretations is interesting to me.

The past doesn’t have to be reproduced.

It can be used as inspiration for the next version of Trance.

Final Thoughts

September 2026 is closing with an interesting mixture of announcements, new productions and renewed interest in classic Trance.

With A State of Trance Rotterdam 2027 already beginning to reveal its lineup, fresh releases continuing to arrive every Friday, and labels such as Black Hole Recordings connecting contemporary productions with the genre’s history, there is plenty for Trance listeners and producers to follow.

And perhaps the most interesting question isn’t whether Trance is returning to its past or moving into the future.

It’s how much of both can exist at the same time.
